Komoto Privacy Policy
Last updated October 2026
Komoto ("we", "us") runs the Komoto website and services. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and your choices. Contact: info@thekomoto.com.
01 Information we collect
From Creator applications (the form on thekomoto.com/apply):
- name, country, email address
- portfolio link, team size
- series title, synopsis, genres, planned episode count and length, release schedule, pilot episode link
- confirmations you give (format, rights, exclusivity, release schedule)
From contacting us: your email and message content.
From accounts (when sign-in is available): name, email, profile image, and sign-in details from the provider you choose (for example Google).
Technical data: IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed, and similar log data, collected automatically and by cookies.
Payments (when payments are available): handled by our payment provider. We receive limited details (such as payment status and the last digits of a card), not full card numbers. Creators who get payouts also provide payout and tax details.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
02 How we use it
- review Creator applications and contact applicants;
- operate, secure, and improve the Service; prevent spam and fraud (the application form uses a hidden field and timing checks);
- process subscriptions and payouts;
- send service messages (approval, account, security) and, if you opt in, updates;
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
03 Legal bases (if you are in the EU/UK)
Contract (to run the service you asked for), legitimate interests (security, improvement), consent (marketing, optional cookies), and legal obligation.
04 Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- service providers that help us run Komoto: hosting and data storage (Cloudflare), email, sign-in providers, payment processors, analytics;
- Komoto team members who review applications;
- authorities or others when required by law or to protect rights and safety;
- a buyer or successor in a merger or sale, with notice.
Creator profiles, series, and names you choose to publish are visible to viewers.
05 Retention
- Rejected or withdrawn applications: 12 months, then deleted or anonymized.
- Accepted Creator records: while the account is active and as needed for payments, tax, and legal reasons.
- Logs: 90 days.
You can ask us to delete your data sooner (Section 7).
06 International transfers
Komoto is based in the United States and our providers may process data in other countries. Where required, we use safeguards such as standard contractual clauses. Applicants from outside the U.S. understand their information is transferred to and stored in the U.S. and other countries.
07 Your choices and rights
You can ask us to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, or object to or restrict some uses. California residents may also know what we collect, request deletion or correction, and opt out of "sale" or "sharing" (we do not sell or share for cross-context advertising). EU/UK residents may also withdraw consent and complain to their data protection authority. We will not discriminate against you for exercising rights. Email info@thekomoto.com; we may verify your identity first.
08 Cookies
We use cookies that are necessary for the site and sign-in and optional analytics cookies, which you can decline. You can control cookies in your browser.
09 Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures (encryption in transit, access controls). No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10 Changes
We will post updates here and, for material changes, notify you by email or on the site.
